d3 – 3wk shakedown

It’s the Tall Ones BIRTHDAY!!!!

And yes, we love you even more, now you’re 64!

Rollingstone

An early morning walk along the beach when we first got up for the Short One, and Mabi-Dog.

Only two other women on the beach, and it was lovely and peaceful, with some rain visible over Magnetic Island in the distance.

No sign of salt-water lizard (crocodile) activity overnight, but we stayed well clear of the high water line regardless.

Once back at the bus, we had a cuppa with the birthday girl and watched as she happily opened presents.
Nothing wildly exciting, but some things we thought she’d like, and she did.

After our cuppa we started to pack up our camp-site, as we are heading off today to make our way to Bowen – via Townville if the Auto-Elec tells us to; when we call him later in the morning.

There was a shower or two during our pack-up, but nothing other than a bit of mizzle which didn’t put a dampener on anything too much.
The thing that was most wet was our awning mat, which the water from the airconditioner had been leaking under, and making a bit of a puddle, which the sand stuck to.
Nothing a good brush with a stiff broom didn’t fix.

After most of the stuff was stowed away, Mabi and I went for another beach walk, and the Tall One had her breakfast standing up at the fencing and looking out over the seawall, while we were gone.

Then everyone strapped into their seats, and we were back on the road heading South.

Townsville

We stopped just before the Townsville ring-road to call Tim, the Auto Electrician.
He had not only ordered a part for us to pick up, but had also paid for it (!!) so we drove into the industrial estate at Duckworth street and collected the part, then back out onto the highway to continue the trip South.

Ayr

We stopped at the Plantation Park in Ayr to make ourselves some lunch, and to give Mabi a walk around.
She had a sleep whilst we made ourselves some very tasty wraps for lunch, and after lunch we went for a little wander, but barely scratched the surface of what we’d like to see there when we have a bit more time; and when its also a little less steamy.

Bowen

On arrival in Bowen we scoped out where the Auto-Elec was located, as we have a 7am appointment with him tomorrow, so we wanted to make sure we knew where we were going, then we headed off to find the Park where we plan to spend the next two nights.

We settled in after doing all the power, water and sullage connections, and the short one had a quick dip in the pool which was freezing.

Later once it cooled, we took Mabi for a walk along the beach – which as always – was very lovely.

Being a birthday day, we’d actually brought a special bottle of bubbles with us, which we opened and had with a cheese platter.
Pretty good way to wind up a birthday we reckon!

Until next time – happy travels, and make the moments matter.
