d16 – 3wk shakedown

Heading North:

We got quite a bit of the packing up done last night before we settled down to watch part of a movie, so we didn’t have as much to do if it ended up being super hot and streamy again; and we had also decided to go for a walk along part of the Bicentennial Walkway early on – before our cuppa or breakfast.

The walk was lovely, and a lot of detail has been put into the boardwalk with nonslip grating that is small enough to be dog-friendly – but still easily drains water – and it wraps around the coastline giving spectacular views of the ocean and marina.
There are also hand rails on both sides all the way along – really quite impressive.

Home for a cuppa and breakfast for everyone, and then it was time for us to be getting down to the rest of the pack-up.

On the road:

Once we were on our way, we went for a drive around the local area to see how much it’s changed since we last stayed here – around 24 years ago.
Spoiler: it’s changed a lot!

After looking around a bit, we worked our way back out on to the highway, heading for Home Hill.

Weather:

By the time we got to Home Hill, the rain was torrential but we needed to give Mabi a wee stop, so it was on with the rain jacket, and out into the storm with her.

Some twerp had left chicken bones scattered all around the grass, so picking those up and putting them into the bin so some other poor unsuspecting dog didn’t get them lodged in their throat was an absolute delight… not!

It turned out that where we had stopped was also mozzie central, and by the time we got back to the bus there was a cloud of mozzies ready for entry. ~sighhh~

Lots of slapping and some spray for all of us, and we got going again.
(yes, we have special doggy fly/mozzie spray!)

We decided that as the rain was so heavy, we’d stay the night in Home Hill, but after looking at the Council van park, we decided to drive on to Ayr.

We drove past the first one to have a look at the second, and didn’t end up going back to look at the first, as we were very happy with the second one when we called in, and the storms were not far away again, so we wanted to get settled in as quickly as possible before the next one hit.

Its a nice Park, and much bigger than we had originally thought, and is home to a lot of itinerant workers for the local farms.
You’d hardly know anyone was about though, as the place has a nice quiet cosy feel to it, and we’ll definitely go back there again.

Food:

Once we were parked-up and organised, we made ourselves some lunch as we were both super-hungry.
It’s actually one of the things we enjoy most about Henry, is being able to duck straight into our little kitchen and whip up something good and nutritious, instead of calling in to a takeaway.
Of course that’s not to say we never eat out – we do on occasion!

We had leftover pizza for dinner.

Until next time – happy travels; and make the moments matter.

a lot of rain and the sides of the road were quickly filling up!
