Back on the Road

Back on the Road – Slowly & Simply

Well, we’ve been back on the road in Henry Moho for almost a week now, and it feels soooo good to be rolling again.

We’re meandering our way towards the Gold Coast hinterland area for a wedding later this month, taking our time as always — the Simple Slow Road way.

Already, we’ve had the joy of catching up with our youngest Daughter and her little Fam in Townsville, and we’ve got plans to see a few more of our Sibs, Kids and Grandkids as we head South; as well as on our return leg to Far North Queensland.

And yes — Mabi is with us!

For those who are new here: Mabi – our beautiful four-legged furry-copilot travel buddy – was diagnosed with Addisons Disease mid-last year.
Dogs (and people) with Addisons Disease have impaired adrenal glands, which can’t produce enough cortisol – a hormone critical for managing stress.

Stress can exacerbate Addisons Disease which means that during periods of physical or emotional stress, their bodies can’t respond adequately, potentially leading to an Addisonian crisis, which is a medical emergency; therefore managing stress and adjusting medication during stressful times (under medical supervision) is crucial.

It’s been quite the journey getting her medications sorted, but after ten months of tweaking and adjusting, she’s mostly pretty stable, however certain stressors or just generally being unwell, can still throw her a little off course, so we have to stay extra vigilant and occasionally tweak and adjust her meds.

Her condition means we travel a bit differently now — shorter days on the road, more frequent breaks, and lots of time for rest, naps, walks and belly rubs.
Sometimes for the dog, sometimes for the humans! 😀
But honestly – we’re not mad about that – it suits our way of travel perfectly.

Mabi has always been somewhat of a mascot for the Simple Slow Road — and now that’s even more appropriate than ever.

New Stops Along the Way

We’ve spent the last few nights at a couple of places we haven’t stayed at before, and it’s always nice to find new little gems.

Proserpine Holiday Park <link>
This one is a small, council-run park tucked in right next door to the town pool — and park guests have free access to the pool, which is a great bonus!
It’s a lovely, quiet spot.
Clean facilities and a friendly vibe. Not a huge park – but it doesn’t need to be.
Worth noting: there is no Wi-Fi, which seems to be a growing trend these days.
We’re guessing it’s because many folks now travel with decent data plans or their own satellite setups like starlink.
Mobile reception is decent.

BarraCrab Caravan Park – Clairview <link>
We finally stopped in at Clairview after hearing so many great things about it — and it did not disappoint.

This park is huge — over 80 unpowered sites alone, plus powered sites, bungalows, and dongas, and it’s right on the beach.
It’s dog-friendly (of course!), and even has a beach-side restaurant on site — always a treat.

The little shop at Reception stocks a few essentials, including some very tasty fresh bakery goods.
Prices are on the higher side in the shop, which is fair given its remote location.

They use bore water throughout the park, but do have a tank for refilling drinking bottles.

Amenities-wise — yes, they’re older, but they’re super clean and perfectly functional, and really, that’s all that matters to us when it comes to an ablutions block…

We’ll keep you posted as we wind our way further south.
There’s nothing to be gained for us by rushing – other than added stress – so as long as we make it to the Wedding on time, we’ll just keep doing our slow mornings, roadside chats, and soaking in whatever the next stretch of road offers us.

Until next time — happy trails, travel gently and make the moments matter.
