Bordertown

We were expecting Bordertown to be either at – or very close to – the next Border Security / Quarantine Check area, but as we found later on in the trip, there wasn’t an actual organised check-point like the one we went through last time when we were coming from Victoria to South Australia. 

We arrived in Bordertown on New Years Day – and the town was a veritable ghost-town – with no shops that we saw open, no cars on the roads around town, and no-one at all to be seen!

It was a little eerie, but it was a cute little town and hopefully we’ll get to go back sometime and explore it a bit more.

A bygone era

Our next stop was at Serviceton, and kudos to the Council or Progress Association – the signage to get there was some of the very best we’ve seen to date!

We visited the now defunct Serviceton Railway Station which is the most stunning of buildings, and loved exploring not only the platform, and the exterior of the building, but managed to get into a part of the building which houses a lot of memorabilia from a time long past.

The Station was built by the respective States, as a junction Station midway between Adelaide and Melbourne., and it was such a lovely feeling to be within the walls of this special building, and was definitely a step-back-in-time moment, which will be treasured by us both for a long time; and the building reputedly boasts 33 rooms and 28 fireplaces!!

Art

Driving through Kaniva we stopped to have a drink and to check out the Silo Art from the RSL Memorial Park., which was of course impressive – as they mostly tend to be.
There was also a lovely big windmill for us to enjoy.
