Cloncurry return

The drive from the Isa straight through to Julia Creek was going to be a little longer than we wanted to do in one haul, so we decided that as we’d liked the Cloncurry Van Park so much, we would drive back through and spend the night back there again.

They also had those nice cheap washing machines, so we threw in a load while we were there.

The dogs seem to quite like that particular park as well.
Lots of different places to walk, smells to be sniffed, and grass to be rolled on.

Julia Creek

Julia Creek is a great little town, with a fabulous Info Centre called ‘At The Creek’.

There are loads of displays, and a plethora of press-button audio information sessions you can listen to about everything from the cattle to the surrounding country and everything in between.
This means you can listen and learn at your own speed, which for us is always a bonus.

We stayed for two nights at the Julia Creek Caravan Park which is also famous for its Artesian Baths.
We did not choose to indulge ourselves though, as we thought $85 was a bit steep for a soak in some water – especially when you have to supply your own drinks/nibbles!

There is also a great dog-park across the road from the park for those who want to socialize their dogs and let them have a run around off leash in a safe space.

On our last day at the van park, the predicted storms rolled on in and lots of the campers and vans – which were in the lower section – had to be moved on, as it’s known to be black boggy mud that’s almost impossible to get out of.
Thankfully we were up on a blacktop site, so didn’t have to worry, but walking around the next morning was a very slippery endeavour!

Being out in big-sky country is always pretty amazing on the senses for us, and the Outback skies are definitely something to behold.
It’s one of the things that keeps drawing us back.
