After around 6000+km, it was time for us to stop for a while to do some work on Henry, get the entire ‘house’ gutted and fully cleaned, curtains washed, get a better mattress, replace the windscreen and to ditch some things we thought we’d want or need with us – but have now worked out that we don’t; so we headed to Adelaide to park-up in our little home for a while.

We also had a couple of healthcare appointments that we needed to attend to, and did those in between all our other planned chores, and of course we got to spend a bit of time with the Fam, and to do a house-sit.

We can highly recommend the Breastscreen SA Clinic at Elizabeth.
While it was a bit of ridiculousness that we had to close our Breastscreen Qld file to open a new client file for Breastscreen SA, it didn’t take too long; and the folks at the clinic managed to get the Short One in within a few days, to get scanned.

The waiting time at the Clinic after filling out the required forms was minimal, and the scan itself was quick and professional.
We are so very lucky in Australia to have the Breastscreen Australia facilities as a free service for eligible people.

Our next appointment was to have our windscreen replaced by Obriens at Salisbury.

The time and location changed around 5 or 6 times, but we finally drove over to Salisbury and waited in their customer care area while they put in the new one, which took around 90 minutes.

Even managed to drive there and back in the rain without getting lost!

Specsavers for both of us, a lunch-date at the shopping centre and some grocery shopping was a pretty exciting outing for us to do together, as we had a sitter for the Puppa and this was the first time we’d been able to go shopping together since we’d left the Farm around two months earlier.
Specsavers managed to do a quick turnaround on our glasses, so it wasn’t too long before they were ready for us to go and collect.

We took a day out amid the appointments to take a trip down to Henley Beach to take Henry for a run, and on the way back decided to call in to the refrigeration shop we’d been emailing with for a bit, so that we could have a look in person, at the fridge we were thinking about swapping over to.

Our current fridge is a Dometic 3-way absorption fridge, and we’re not wildly keen on its abilities to keep food safely cold, so we don’t keep a lot of things like meats in the fridge, for fear of them going off, and we routinely have an ice-brick and a fan in the fridge, to try and keep things a little bit more evenly cooled.

We also find it supremely annoying when we’re off-grid and needing to use gas to keep the fridge going, to have to find a parking spot that is either almost dead level, or at least level enough that with some wangling of getting parts of the bus up on chocks, so that we can get the bus pretty much level – otherwise the gas wont light, and the fridge wont work.

With a new compressor fridge (which we’ve actually been researching longer than we’ve had the bus!!) it will run on either 12v or 240v (electricity) which is a much better option for us, and also makes for a much less finicky fridge to operate in general.
It will also give us about 40 litres extra of refrigeration space!
A huuuge extra win.

We ended up organizing a time to be able to book Henry in with Atlanta Refrigeration, and the install was completed with an overnight stay in the yard for Henry, to make sure that everything was working as it should.

And the final big-ticket job was to get a new mattress.

The mattress that we’ve had in the bus for the last 16 months was a cheap as chips shoddy generic big box foam one, and it quickly developed large hip and shoulder divots from being used by us every.single.day,and as a result was not only supremely uncomfortable, but the divots made trying to get in and out of bed – or even just simply turning over – an absolute nightmare!

We’d heard around the traps about a particularly good range of mattresses, and so the Tall One set forth on one her infamous research rabbit holes, and after some emails and calls, found a custom made-to-measure place called Elite Bedding Co that had a good reputation and on initial enquiries, had great customer service.

A couple of hours spent discussing our wants and needs with them, and a millimetre-perfect template was made by the wonderful Karl, and we were sent away to await the call saying our bespoke mattress was ready!

Within only a few days – much sooner than we’d been led to expect – we got the call that our new mattress was ready!

It was with equal parts of nervousness and excitement that we spent our first night together nestled in our new bed, and we can absolutely assure you that it did not disappoint.

We reckon that this is probably the very best mattress we’ve ever had – and definitely not the most expensive!!

Finally – we’d done almost everything we needed to get checked off the list – except for managing to find someone to give Molly a haircut.
We’re still trying to get a bloody spot for her somewhere!

She is desperately in need and has some deeply matted prickles we’ve been slowly cutting out of her coat, and from between her paw-pads. She’s not a fan, and screams non-stop like she being sliced open with a rusty blade – which is why it’s going slowly!

It was during this time that the Short One got sick.
Very very sick – and was mostly bed-bound and out of commission apart from a few lucid hours here and there every couple of days – for the next three veryyyy longggg weeks.

It was also during this time that we had one of our scheduled Travel Days, as we had a booking at Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula.

Amazingly, the Tall One somehow got the entire bus organized and packed-up, got all of us – including the dogs – loaded up, moved us a couple of hours across the state, did the grocery shopping on the way, and then parked-up, unpacked us and got us all set back up again.
Wonderfully amazing and very appreciated by all!
