d21 – 3wk shakedown
Melting:
Last night was possibly the hottest and most humid sleep either of us have ever had.
With the aircon not working, and all of the windows except the small one under the awning needing to stay closed because of the rains, there was almost no airflow so the small and medium fans that we did have on, weren’t making much of a dint in the almost suffocating air at all.
Morning routines:
Thus, we woke not long after sunrise – to wild wind and drizzle, so the early morning beach walk was very short lived as we got sand-blasted as soon as we went through the trees onto the sand.
Mabi wasn’t keen either, so as soon as she’d attended to her ablutions, we headed back to Henry to dry off and have a cuppa.
Pack-up:
After our cuppa and breakfast, it was time to start packing up the bus ready for our final travel day, which didn’t take too long as we’ve got it down to a pretty fine art by now.
We washed down the awning as we had been parked somewhat under a tree to try and get some shade and it had dropped a lot of leaves; then we folded up the legs and rolled it safely away.
Drive-time:
By 8am we were on the road home.
We ran into a few downpours, and by the time we got to Malanda we all needed a rest and a loo break, so we pulled up at the park and took Mabi for a stroll, and went to one of the local cafes for a cuppa.
Once done, Mabi had another park wander and then we all got back into Henry for the final leg, and within a half hour, we were pulling into our driveway.
and we’re back!
By the time we had reversed Henry into his usual spot, our lovely house-sitter was at the gate ready to welcome us, and she was closely followed by our other dogs and cats.
Mabi was also pretty excited to see everyone!
We all went inside and sat around chatting and catching up for a while, then we stared to unpack Henry while our house-sitter finished packing her car as she’d previously decided she was going to drive to stay overnight at a friends place.
And then – once again it was just us at home – quite an odd feeling after three quite full-on weeks…
Farm duties await:
But we had work to do – so sitting around reminiscing and dissecting our memories, thoughts and feelings was going to have to wait!
We had laundry to do, a bus fridge and two freezers to empty out, a tarp to set up over the bus, and just general settling back in, and chores that needed our attention.
Despite the issues we’ve had during this trip, that was a big part of the actual plan for it: to try and iron out as many gremlins as possible so that we could get them attended to; – and whilst we don’t feel like we’ve quite managed that as we had hoped – due to being stranded in one spot for so long – we’ve learnt once again that we make a pretty darn good team under potentially stressful conditions.
We’re also so incredibly grateful that the Marvellous Ms S made this trip a possibility for us…
Until next time – happy travels, and make the moments matter.
